Google Analytics is a free web statistics service provided by, you guessed it Google. Businesses of all sizes use this fantastic web application to monitor their site traffic, taking advantage of a free stats package that would usually costs hundreds of pounds a month.
One of the first things I would recommend after you have setup your Google Analytics account is to make sure that you exclude your company’s network (IP address) from the statistics. Doing so will ensure that your statistics are ‘true’, and not manipulated by internal staff visiting the site from day to day.
Here’s how to do it:

Step One
Login to your Google Analytics account and then click the Analytics Settings link in the top left of the screen.

Step Two
Find the domain you would like to add the filter to (if you have more than one), next, click on the edit button to the far right, under Actions.

Step Three
Navigate down to the table titled: Filters Applied to Profile, to the far right of the table heading, you will see + Add filter, click this link.
Step Four
Enter name for your filter , then select Predefined filter, using the following settings:
Exclude / traffic from IP addresses / that are equal to:
…and then enter your own or your companies IP address, then click Save Changes.
If you do not know your IP address, contact your network administrator or ISP. Some ISP’s may assign a dynamic IP, ask them if you can have a static IP address.
Now you should have a true reflection of how the site is doing within Google Analytics.
Don’t have a Google Analytics account?
Not a problem, you can register for one here for free. You will need to place some code on your website, let me know if you need any help with this.
