Technology has had a massive impact on everybody’s life, sometimes though, it can have a negative impact on your working day. Emails, social networking sites, RSS feeds and more, they all demand our time. Here are a few tips to help you take control of your day:
Make sure your email program is not checking for emails every 5 minutes
If it is, you will find it hard to find any momentum with your work, you will constantly be reacting as oppose to completing the task in hand. Instead, try increase it to an hour or so.
Schedule a set time and day for social networking
If social networking is a part of online marketing strategy, make sure that you schedule a day and time for posting and responding. Knowing how to get the most out of Twitter is an art in itself, one that is beyond the scope of the post, rest assured though, it needn’t be a full time time job.
Get away from the screen
It may sound strange, being a web design company and all, but we are finding that our most productive and creative time is spent away from the screen. During the design process, we go for a walk in the park, or perhaps into town, observe colours, architecture, posters, nature, they all contribute to getting the creative juices going. When we work on reports, briefs, proposals etc. it all starts out on paper.
Limit the number of programs you have open
Flicking between applications can be distracting, just open the ones you need to get the job done. We use a nice little application for the Mac called Isolater, what this does is black everything out on the screen, except that application you are currently working on.
In short, make sure you are not constantly reacting to situations, at the expense of getting your to do list done.
